Hello.

I was banded on the 7th of this month.  At my pre-op visit I was told I would have the Realize band put in. Today I got an email stating my surgeon would like me to view videos about the lap-band and life after the lap band.  The email was from my-emmi.com.  Is anyone familar with this webite. At the introduction the website had my name, date of birth and surgeon's name.  How would that site have that info if it wasn't given by my doctor?  Does this mean he put in the lap-band instead of the Realize that we talked about?  I go for a follow up tomorrow and will get the real info then.

I had to post though because I am feeling mad and disappointed. Am I jumping the gun or do I have the right to feel this way?

Jen,

Have you called the Doctor and asked? That's the best way to "get to the bottom of this".

There could be a reason the Realize band will not be right for you. Only the Doctor will know, and they will explain the reason for the change (if there is one).

If you really have your heart set on the Realize, and there is no "medical reason" why you can't have it - then (IMHO) stick to your guns. If this Doctor refuses, go to another.

Good Luck !!
Good Luck on your Journey !!

i had to watch the same video even though I had the Realize band put in. I would call the office to see.

Thanks for the replies.  I feel a bit better now, I am so emotional since the surgery.

I  have heard "a band is a band is a band" but I like the support available to Realize patients.

Thanks again,

Hey Jen,
The myy emmi video was required by my surgeon to watch prior to surgery.    I would deffinatly call the surgeon to see what happened, and if nothing else, maybe he can get you  a code for the realize my success site. since that was what you requested to start with.

Either way, the surgery is done and you ARE going to be a success no matter what band you have!!!!!!  Hang in there, it will get better-the emotional part---I was banded Nov 5 and i am finally feeling human again!

HUGGSSSSSS to you!

Renee,

Is that where you get the code to get in to the realize my success site?  I have tried once and gave up.  Thought it might be your band number?  My doctor is in Mexico, but I can reach him
if necessary.  Have you been on the site?  Did you use your band number?  THanks.

Each physician has a code. There is a way to look up your physicians code. When I was entering mine I did not realize the letters had to be all capitalized and I did try looking my physician up.  I got my code from the physician when I started my pre op and then I will get another code after my surgery that will open up the website to more information and recipes.

My doctor told me he could not determine which band I would be given until he had the laproscopic view into my stomach. The reason for this is the Lap-Band has a wider diameter than the Realize. Depending on the shape and size of your stomach it may have been necessary to use the Lap-Band. It is not cause for alarm, the bands are very similar and I am sure you will have sucess regardless.
